Police: Child, woman shot and killed inside Shelby home

SHELBY, NC (WTVD) -- Police said a child and a woman were shot to death early Thursday morning in Shelby, WSOC reports..

The child was identified as 3-year-old Liam Beason. Family confirmed the woman shot was Miranda Woods, but her age has not been released.

It happened on Whisnant Street before 7:45 a.m., authorities told WSOC. Police confirmed the toddler and woman had been shot inside a home.

Liam and Liam's mother were inside the home, along with Miranda Woods. Friends told WSOC they were not sure why Woods was there.

Liam's mother made it out of the house unharmed but the shooter got away.

Officials said a man had also been shot and was taken to an area hospital. It was unclear how badly that man was injured.

According to police, the shootings were not random. Detectives didn't release a suspect description.
