FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Fayetteville police confirmed Tuesday that the body found by a boater on the Cape Fear River Saturday night, has been identified as a swimmer who was reported missing Friday.
Fayetteville rescue crews had been searching for 21-year-old Drequan Odle since Friday afternoon. A family friend said Odle and two other men were swimming in the river to cool off when they got into trouble.
One of the men swam to shore and called 911.
A fire department rescue boat saved the second man, who they found clinging to a log. Odle, the man said, was pulled under by the current and drowned.
Crews had to stop their search of the Cape Fear River for Odle Friday night because of darkness, and Saturday's search was put on hold due to thunderstorms.
