RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A Raleigh homeowner is facing charges after police say he pulled a gun on a contractor repairing the sidewalk in front of his house.
It happened Monday around 5 p.m. on Waterbury Rd. Raleigh police arrested and charged 48-year-old Francis Dunton with assault by pointing a gun.
The contractor, Jason Francis, hired by Browe Construction to repair the city sidewalk considered a trip hazard, told ABC11 he and his crew were wrapping up for the day when work came to an abrupt halt.
"I was probably at the end of his driveway and he came back out with a gun, telling us you know, if you come back on my property I'm going to shoot you, and that's when he was pointing it at me," he said.
Francis said Dunton went inside his home to grab the pistol after throwing their cones and other materials into the street while complaining about the crew destroying his yard.
Francis explained they had to cut back the grass on his front lawn to make room for the slab.
"I was just assuring him that when we're done we back fill it, put seed in there and grass will grow back and he didn't want nothing of it," he said.
In the end, no shots were fired and no one was hurt. Francis and the other men left and called police who soon arrested and charged Dunton.
"They haven't had any issues out here today, thankfully," Jordan Brown, project manager with Browe Construction said Tuesday. "I don't understand why anybody would get upset over us trying to fix their sidewalk for them."
