A man kept police at bay from Friday evening all the way to Saturday morning in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A man kept police at bay from Friday evening all the way to Saturday morning in Fayetteville.

Police said the first call came in just before 6 p.m. from Gola Road saying the man threatened a neighbor with a shotgun or rifle and then went back into his home.

Officers surrounded the home and tried to talk him out. The standoff ended just after 8 a.m. Saturday morning when officers used tear gas - forcing the man to come out and surrender. The 81-year-old was seen getting medical treatment in an ambulance.

The man has not been identified. He has been taken for a mental evaluation.
