RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A power outage within the North Carolina Department of Revenue lead to problems at DMV offices across the state.

"Four [hours I waited]. I mean my God, my day is over," said Patricia Nixon.

Folks tell ABC11 they were never once warned inside the DMV about the power outage, and some services couldn't be completed.

"Part of my day off was doing this," said Ray Sharpe.

"They mentioned something at one point about they couldn't give out more tickets at one point. We figured something wasn't being generated. We just didn't know what. No one told us that," said Nixon.

The DOT did send out a tweet explaining the situation.

Most people were annoyed. Luba Griffin was disappointed. She has been looking forward to her trip to the DMV.

"I was going to get my license today and I was hoping to get it so I can drive," said Griffin.

The DMV will be closed Monday for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Everyone will have to wait until Tuesday to come back and handle their business.

If your registration expired on the 15th, the DOT says drivers will get a 10-day extension period free of charge to renew.
