Racist graffiti found in ECU residence hall
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- East Carolina University Police are investigating after racist graffiti was found in a campus dorm.
Officials said they found it around 4 a.m. on Sunday in the Jones Residence Hall.
Police said the graffiti targeted African Americans, but no one specifically. It was found written in permanent marker in the stairwell and on the wall of the second floor.
Housekeeping cleaned up the area immediately, according to police.
Using security footage, police identified two suspects who authorities said are not students, employees of ECU, or members of the Greenville community.
Chancellor Steve Ballard said the university does not tolerate hate-filled acts that target groups or individuals and seek to intimidate them.
"Across our campus, we will continue to fight against hate-filled speech and bias crimes against all groups," Ballard said. "Those are not East Carolina values. We will work toward a community of acceptance that honors diversity as a strength and value."
