Raleigh man accused of making sex video with 8-year-old
Investigators allege a man arrested in Raleigh took part in child porn operation

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Federal investigators announced a new arrest Friday in an alleged child pornography operation that was run from a home near Sanford.

Vincent Picard with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said 46-year-old William Akers has been arrested and faces child pornography charges. Akers was being held in the Wake County jail without bond.

Homeland Security Investigations personnel identified Akers as the "John Doe" who appeared in a video sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl. Akers is an employee of an information technology department at a Raleigh company.

The video was seized by Harnett County sheriff's deputies last year as part of an investigation of Bailey Joe Mills - who has pleaded guilty to manufacturing child pornography in federal court.

Investigators say Mills also filmed himself having sex with underage girls. Deputies arrested Mills in early 2014 after an alleged victim's parent saw a disturbing Facebook message and tipped them off.

Investigators said Mills paid a 12-year-old girl for sex. The alleged victim told them she was shown homemade pornography at Mills' home that included another juvenile female in the video.

A search of Mills' home turned up video and photographic images showing multiple juveniles being sexually assaulted by adult males and an adult female. The victims in the case ranged in ages from 1 to 14.

Deputies say Mills told victims he was a tutor, mentor, and a baby-sitter in order to lure girls and develop a relationship with their parents. Mills allegedly offered the girls money to have sex with men he recruited through social media websites.

Mills has sex crime convictions dating back to 1997, including an arrest in 2000 where he approached an 11-year-old girl at a Raleigh flea market and touched her inappropriately.

Four other people were charged in the Sanford case including Mills' wife.
