RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Funeral services for a Clayton woman shot to death in Raleigh last week are set for Tuesday. A visitation was held Monday at Lea Funeral Home on Poole Road in Raleigh for Tonya Sutton.
Many who spoke with ABC11 called her a wonderful friend and coworker.
Police said the nurse technician who worked at WakeMed was shot to death in the 2400 block of Wesvill Court - off Lake Boone Trail - on Thursday around 11:30 a.m. by her husband Michael Sutton, 42.
Sutton is expected to go before a judge on Tuesday on a murder charge. It's not the first time he's faced a judge. According to criminal records, he was charged with attempted murder and first-degree arson after an incident in July 2001. Sutton went to trial and was acquitted of those charges by a jury.
But in this case there is at least one eyewitness to the crime. That person called 911 and claimed to have seen Sutton gun down his wife on a sidewalk in the parking lot of an apartment complex.
Police arrested Michael Sutton on Friday at his home in Johnston County. The couple has a young daughter.
