The incident happened between 11:45 p.m. and midnight, but the body was discovered around 7:45 a.m., said Lt. Jeff Gordon, of North Carolina State Highway Patrol. The pedestrian was later identified as Terrance Rayshone Faison of Raleigh.
Troopers have recovered a piece of the vehicle and are looking for a two-tone 2005 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer with gold on the bottom and damage to the front right corner bumper.
It is unclear if the driver knew they hit someone, but charges will be filed when the driver is notified, Lt. Gordon said.
