A Shelby police officer is in stable but critical condition after an overnight shooting

SHELBY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A police officer was shot early Saturday morning while searching for a person who was wanted on outstanding warrants.

Officer Tim Brackeen, 38, was shot just after midnight. He is listed in critical condition.

WSOC reports authorities have issued a warrant for 23-year-old Irving Lucien Fenner, Jr. for attempted murder.

Brackeen has worked with the police department since 2004 and now works as a K-9 officer.
