Ft. Bragg soldier arrested after News & Observer break in
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Raleigh police have arrested a Fort Bragg soldier after the News & Observer break-in early Sunday morning.
Ethan Michael Mangum, 23, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering, injury to a building, fence, or wall, and injury to personal property in connection to the incident at the newspaper office.
In connection to the second incident at the First Presbyterian Church nearby on Salisbury Street, Mangum is charged with breaking and entering, injury to real property, and injury to personal property.
Police said they received a CrimeStoppers tip after media coverage including a surveillance photo.
Fort Bragg officials confirm Mangum is a specialist, assigned to infantry with the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School. He is active duty and had reported to work on Friday as normal, said spokeswoman Maj. Melody Faulkenberry.
Mangum also resides on post.
Representatives with the newspaper said the suspect trashed the news department and administrative offices.
Church staff said they found 17 of their decorative rocks thrown through two windows in their childcare area. The windows were smashed and several cribs were damaged.
