Gov. McCrory ordered state flags to be flown at half staff Monday

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Gov. Pat McCrory released a statement Sunday afternoon ordering all state flags to be lowered to honor the military members slain in Tennessee.

He ordered the North Carolina flag to half-staff in honor of the four U.S. Marines and a U.S. Navy petty officer who were gunned down in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The N.C. flag will be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Monday.

"We are eternally grateful for the risks and sacrifices the men and women of our military bear each time they put on the uniform, regardless of where they serve," Governor McCrory said. "All of North Carolina is heartbroken over the tragedy in Chattanooga. We are praying for the victims and their families, as well as for the safety of every American soldier, marine, airman, sailor and those serving in the Coast Guard, here in North Carolina and throughout the world."
