Students send support for crossing guard
Signs were put out to show support for crossing guard Sonny Alston

CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Students at Northwoods Elementary school are busy writing. They're sending messages to someone who has watched over them for nearly a decade - Sonny Alston.

Alston is the school's crossing guard.

Parents noted that Alston, rain or shine, is always there no matter what.

When Alston didn't show up this week, Leigh Williams, the PTA vice president, called police and they found him.

"He was responsive, and we were just really happy to hear that," said Williams.

Alston's daughter posted on Facebook that her dad had suffered a stroke.

She said his speech is impaired and he may not be able to use his left side again.

The kids at Northwoods are sending him cards full of support. And parents are too, posting messages on the PTA's Facebook page.

WakeMed in Cary says Alston is in good condition.
