CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WTVD) -- Volunteers are in full force Thursday in uptown Charlotte, cleaning up the mess some protesters left behind.

Protesters gathered in the busiest areas of the city for the second night of unrest. The demonstrations were sparked by the shooting death of 43-year-old Keith Lamont Scott. Police say Scott disregarded repeated demands to drop his gun, while neighborhood residents say he was holding a book, not a weapon, as he waited for his son to get off the school bus.
Police reported one person was shot and four officers were injured during Wednesday night's demonstrations.
Thursday morning, officers joined volunteers to clean broken glass and looted shops, including the Hornets Pro Shot at Time Warner Cable Arena.
"Today is my day off," said volunteer Brittany Boswell. "I was going to spend the day cleaning up my house, but I decided to help clean up the city.
Boswell said she gets something out of helping clean up her beloved city.
"You give back, there's a selfish motive and feeling inside, that you feel good and you're making a difference," Boswell shared.
There's been no word from city officials what the cost of cleanup will total once the dust has settled.
