Wake County man charged with shooting neighbor
A Wake County woman is recovering from a gunshot wound and her neighbor is charged with trying to kill her.

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Wake County woman is recovering from a gunshot wound and her neighbor is charged with trying to kill her.

In a search warrant made public Tuesday, Wake County Sheriff's investigators said they were called to a home in the 8000-block of Humie Olive Road just before 1 a.m. Saturday. The home is in the Friendship community just west of Apex.

When deputies arrived, they found Joyce Womble with a gunshot wound. Witnesses told them they were watching TV when a man outside started banging on a window. They said when Womble went out to investigate they heard two gunshots.

The witnesses identified the suspect as 51-year old Ricky O'Neil, who was arrested just down the road at his home at in the 2700-block of Blazing Trail Drive a short time later. He's been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Investigators said the crime was not random.

It's not clear what Womble's current condition is, but the sheriff's department said her injuries were not life threatening.
