GARNER, N.C. (WTVD) -- A water main break in Garner caused traffic to slow near Highway 401 Thursday afternoon.

Chopper 11 HD was live over the scene as crews worked to repair the break near Highway 401 at Garner Station Boulevard.

Around 7 p.m., the City of Raleigh sent a statement saying the right lane of the 4100 block of Fayetteville Road in Garner, beginning at the right merge lane on Garner Station Boulevard to repair the water main break. Work was expected to continue through the remainder of the evening.

Motorists should expect traffic delays and are advised to avoid this area if possible.

An official with City of Raleigh Water said water pressure is being maintained to businesses in the area, so they should not have to close. The official said they may be able to make repairs without turning the water off. They aren't sure what caused the main break, but said it was probably due to old infrastructure.
