RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A Raleigh woman is accused of abandoning two young children in the middle of the afternoon in downtown Raleigh.

Secret McClain, 23, is facing two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

According to her arrest warrant, the children were left on a sidewalk at the Heritage Park Apartment Complex. The little girls are 3 and 2 years old.

Sonya Weldon came to the children's rescue Tuesday afternoon.

"I'm mad. That's messed up," Weldon fumed. "The baby didn't have no shoes on, the baby had dirt and grass in her head."

Weldon grabbed the children and called authorities.

"Those kids are innocent. Why she took off and left them? A car could have come by and hit one of them and killed them," she said.

Weldon later scoured the neighborhood, tracked down McClain, and unleashed her fury while still on the line with 911.

"You don't leave them kids like that. Police is on the way," Weldon yelled to McClain.

McClain faced a judge Wednesday and pleaded for a bond reduction. The request was denied.

"I hope she gets what she gets," said Weldon. "Right is right, wrong is wrong."

McClain is being held at the Wake County Detention Center on $5,000 bond. Her next court date is set for Dec. 12.

Police say the children are being cared for by other family members.
