Woman, dog escape from Durham house fire

DURHAM, North Carolina (WTVD) -- A woman and her dog are safe after their home went up in flames early Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out just before 2 a.m. on Guess Road. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames shooting from the home.

Crews were able to quickly contain the fire. The Red Cross is helping the woman and her dog.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
