RALEIGH (WTVD) -- ABC11 has learned new information about the Raleigh mother who police say was gunned down by her husband.

Tonya Sutton worked at WakeMed as a nurse technician.

On Saturday WakeMed released this statement:

Tonya was a nurse tech with WakeMed, supporting and caring for infants and families in our NICU.

We are saddened by the loss of a member of our WakeMed family. Our hearts and condolences go out to Tonya's family, friends, co-workers and loved ones.

Police arrested Michael Sutton on Friday at his home in Johnston County in connection to the murder.

Investigators said he shot Tonya multiple times Thursday at an apartment off Lake Boone Trail before fleeing the scene.

Tonya's grandmother told Eyewitness News she never suspected any problems between the couple.

The two have a young daughter together.

Funeral services are planned for Tuesday at Lea Funeral Home in Raleigh.
