North Carolina rescuers leave Texas after Hurricane Harvey

Sixteen members of North Carolina's Helo-Aquatic Rescue Teams or "NC HART" have returned from assisting with operations in Texas.

Meanwhile, 93 members of the state's five swift water rescue teams in Texas are now demobilizing and beginning the trip home.

Keith Acree with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety says they are closely watching Irma and will be ready to respond, if needed. He said there are 30 state-sponsored swift water rescue teams.

Bobby Cooper is the Director of the Transylvania County EMS and a member of the NC HART team. He returned Sunday after assisting in Texas.

"It is sad, especially when you see the lower income areas and the mobile homes, people that didn't have anywhere to go to begin with and now they have nothing left," Cooper said. "A lot of pretty heavy devastation down there."

With the threat of Irma, Cooper said he?ll be ready if he?s needed closer to home.

"I came home," he said, "Unpacked and repacked my bags just to be ready to go just in case. One of the things that we told Texas when we left is we might be calling them in the coming week to help."
