Pedestrian rushed to hospital after being hit on I-540 in Wake County

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A 37-year-old man is in the hospital after police said he was hit by a car early Thursday morning.

The incident happened around 1 a.m. on I-540 near the I-40 interchange.

Officers said the man was walking in the middle of the road when he was hit by a silver BMW, traveling roughly 70 miles per hour.

After impact, police said the driver stopped about a mile down the road.

The man was taken to Duke University Hospital.

Officials haven't released his condition; however, they said he's expected to recover.

Police have yet to release the identities of those involved.

No charges have been filed.
