Man killed in Person County house fire

HURDLE MILLS, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man was killed in a house fire Thursday evening off Ragland Road in Person County.

The fire started around 10:30 p.m. in Hurdle Mills.

Authorities identified the man as Joe Ragland, 78.

Fire officials said his wife and great granddaughter were in the home with him when the fire started. The great granddaughter got out and ran next door to a relative's house, woke them up, and called 911, according to officials.

There was heavy damage starting in the area of a bedroom next to the living room, authorities said.

They said they do not believe foul play was involved.
