Person hit by train, killed in Johnston County

SMITHFIELD, N.C. (WTVD) -- One person is dead after being hit by a train in Johnston County early Thursday.

It happened around midnight at the railroad crossing on East Market Street and US 70.

Authorities said the person was hit by the CSX train while he/she was on the tracks.

The name of the victim has not been released.
