Abandoned dog fights for her life in Fayetteville
FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A Fayetteville veterinarian is in a desperate fight to save the life of a dog that someone left to starve to death.
The emaciated animal was found a few days ago by a couple who said it was locked in the crawl space of an abandoned home.
Right now, "Precious" weighs barely 23 pounds, which is half her normal weight.
Dr. David Barkman at the Highland Animal Hospital said Precious is getting round-the-clock treatment and her prognosis is "hopeful."
"We are hoping that we make it through, but we have got intestinal parasites, hook worms, heart worms, and positive for Lyme disease," said Barkman. "She has got a long way to go, but we are pulling for her."
Barkman said the next few days will be critical.
An animal rescue group is picking up the medical cost.
Earlier this week, a dog set on fire in Fayetteville had to be euthanized.

"Cocoa" had to be euthanized due to the extent of her injuries after she was allegedly burned by 23-year-old James Franklin Quick after quarrelling with the dog's owner, Dominique Clark.
Cocoa suffered second-degree burns to her body and face on June 14.
Quick has been charged with felony animal cruelty and burning personal property charges in connection with the crime.
At last report, Quick was being held on a $250,000 bond.
