Cumberland County approves $500 fine for dog bites

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WTVD) -- The owner of any dog that bites a person causing an injury that requires medical treatment faces a $500 fine under a new ordinance adopted by the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners Monday.

Commissioners voted 6-1 to approve the change.

The county has seen an increase in dog attacks in recent years, and Animal Control officials asked for stiffer penalties.

The fine is $500 for the first offense.
