Bei Bei the giant panda cub is celebrating a big milestone on Monday. The Smithsonian National Zoo's young star is turning six months old!

Bei Bei was born Aug. 22 to mom Mei Xiang. First lady Michelle Obama and China's first lady Peng Liyuan chose his name, which means "precious" or "treasure." It also complements Bao Bao, his sister's name.

Zoo staff say Bei Bei is growing quickly and is an active little boy. He's even gotten to play in the snow for the first time.

Happy half-birthday to our national treasure!
