FAA: Object not a plane part
The Mystery Bolt that came crashing into a family's home did not come from a plane, officials said Thursday

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The Federal Aviation Administration said Thursday that it has concluded that a large broken-off end of a bolt with a nut attached that crashed through the roof of a northeast Raleigh family's home came from nearby shredding equipment - and not an airplane.

The Weber family said the bolt lodged in the ceiling of their home on White Kestrel Drive - right above the master bedroom.

The family first speculated that the bolt could have come from an airplane, but the FAA said the item is not consistent with any known aircraft.

It's unclear how high the bolt would have to have been thrown from whatever equipment it came from to come down with enough force to pierce the Weber's roof.

The family is now in touch with a contractor to make repairs.
