Rep. Rick Glazier can't wait any longer, resigning Friday from North Carolina House
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A Cumberland County House member just can't stay on the job any longer at the North Carolina General Assembly.
Rep. Rick Glazier announced in June he would resign at the close of this year's session to lead an advocacy group for the poor. But the session has gone so long that Glazier says he's stepping down at midnight Friday.
He spoke with ABC11 Thursday about his 13 years on the job.
Glazier begins his new role Monday as executive director of the North Carolina Justice Center.
The seven-term Democrat gave a farewell address on the House floor Thursday. His colleagues praised his civility, hard work and knack for passing bipartisan legislation. Glazier was also known for impassioned speeches, particularly on liberal-leaning causes.
Cumberland County Democrats are meeting this weekend to choose his replacement in the 44th House District seat.
