Armed robber, getaway driver shut down Raleigh Beltline
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- An armed robber and his getaway driver caused a temporary shutdown of the Raleigh Beltline on Thursday.
It all started around 11 a.m. when the gunman entered the Lagos Supermarket on Atlantic Springs Road in north Raleigh.
According to Lagos employees, the gunman was frustrated because he didn't get any money. He reportedly used his gun to smash the glass door as he left the business.
Luckily, an alert worker got the license plate number off of the getaway driver's car. A Raleigh police officer stopped the car on the Beltline near Capital Boulevard.
One of the suspects jumped and ran, police said, prompting authorities to stop traffic on I-440.
The manager of a neighboring business, who didn't want to be identified, said police brought the robber back to the scene to be identified.
That manager said she recognized him as the man who tried to open the locked door to her business on Wednesday.
The manager, like the owner of the supermarket, has surveillance video of the suspect.
"I'm really shaken up and scared now. And I really feel, my heart goes out to that store owner," the manager told ABC11. "I know they must have been scared. Yes, and definitely running such a business such as ours I'm really scared."
The suspects were identified as 27-year-old Deante Markeith Cooper and 20-year-old Travion Lamont Harris. Both are facing various assault and robbery charges.
