Snow delays: The latest on trash pickup and other municipal services

Here's the latest information we have on municipal closings and delays, including government offices, trash pickup schedules, and other information. Counties are listed in alphabetical order.

ALAMANCE COUNTY

Burlington

Monday and Tuesday trash routes will be serviced on Wednesday. Please have carts to the curb by 7 a.m. If any Monday or Tuesday routes are not serviced on Wednesday please leave them at the curb as they will be collected on Thursday. Crews will work to complete all routes.

Link Transit will not operate Tuesday.

All lakes and marinas will remain closed Tuesday.

CHATHAM COUNTY

The Council on Aging reports that both senior centers are open, but only for those wanting to use the fitness rooms, but the parking lot and walkways at the Western Center in Siler City are still a bit treacherous. The Council on Aging is not providing meals or group classes/activities.

Northwest Park will remain closed because of icy and snow-covered areas.

The public input session on a draft County Parks & Recreation Master Plan will be held Tuesday tonight as scheduled.

The Clerk of Court reports that District Court will have a two-hour delay Wednesday, but other offices will be open on time. Superior Court was not scheduled for this week.

DURHAM COUNTY

GoDurham will run regular weekday service on Tuesday starting at 10 a.m.

The Senior Holiday Party at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel and Convention Center on Tuesday has been postponed to Dec. 21.

City of Durham

The revised collection schedule is only for curbside garbage and recycling collections on passable streets. Yard waste, bulky services, and exempt customer collections remain suspended for the remainder of this week to allow crews to focus on garbage and recycling. Regular collections for yard waste, bulky services, and exempt customers will resume next week under their regular schedules.

  • Monday customers will receive collections on Wednesday, December 12.
  • Tuesday customers will receive collections on Thursday, December 13.
  • Wednesday customers will receive collections on Friday, December 14.
  • Thursday customers will receive collections on Saturday, December 15.

The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center and the Household Hazardous Waste Center will reopen under normal operating schedules on Wednesday, December 12. The Yard Waste Facility is closed until further notice due to impassable road conditions.

JOHNSTON COUNTY

Town of Clayton

All town facilities are operating normally except foir Parks & Recreation's Clayton Community Center. That building closed at 5 p.m. Monday and will stay closed Tuesday for repairs on the heating system.

ORANGE COUNTY

Orange County Board of Commissioners Meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Whitted Building, is canceled.

The Holiday Carolina Blood Drive on Tuesday at Fetzer Hall on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus will be postponed.

Town of Chapel Hill

Town of Chapel Hill facilities and services will operate on normal schedules on Wednesday, Dec. 12, with the exception of the swimming pools, which will open at 9 a.m.

Monday's residential trash collection has been rescheduled to Thursday, Dec. 13; Tuesday's residential trash collection has been rescheduled to Friday, Dec. 14.; Yard waste collections for Thursday and Friday have been canceled this week.

Customers whose recycling is normally picked up on Tuesdays are asked to put their bins out Wednesday morning. Trucks will collect the Tuesday routes on Wednesday and Thursday after finishing their normal routes on those days. Monday's collections will occur on Saturday.

Chapel Hill Transit (Fixed Route and Demand Response) plans to operate all routes and to return to normal schedules on Wednesday, Dec. 12. Routes may experience schedule delays. Demand Response may also experience delays as road conditions dictate the ability of operators to maneuver their vehicles on many area side streets and provide door-to-door service.

Town of Hillsborough

Curbside collection of trash, brush, bulk items and loose leaves will resume when collection trucks can operate safely.

Residents who are able to are encouraged to put their rollout garbage carts at the street for collection. Garbage on all residential routes is expected to be collected by Friday.

Bulk items will be collected next week, and brush collection is expected to resume then.

Town parks remain closed.

WAKE COUNTY

Town of Cary

Curbside collection remains bumped one day. Collection resumes Tuesday.

Sk8-Cary will remain closed until the ramps are safe for use.

Town of Morrisville

Monday trash and recycling pickup will be picked up next Monday, Tuesday pickup will be delayed until Wednesday,

City of Raleigh

If your garbage, recycling, and yard waste are not collected on your regular scheduled collection day this week, leave your cart at the curb. Collection will take place the following day.

The Small Business Expo scheduled for Wednesday in Raleigh has been postponed and will likely be rescheduled for January.

All N.C. State final exams scheduled during the 8 a.m. exam period on Tuesday will be rescheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. Exams scheduled for 1 p.m. and later on Tuesday will be held as planned.

All N.C. State final exams scheduled for Monday will be rescheduled for Saturday, Dec. 15, at their original times and locations.
