RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A man was arrested Friday morning for bringing a gun onto a north Raleigh school's property.
Authorities said a man arriving to do work at Ravenscroft School around 6 a.m. saw James Whitlock, 34, sitting on the school's entrance sign holding a handgun.
Ravenscroft School, which is located on Falls of Neuse Road, is out for the summer.
The man called 911 to report Whitlock. The caller said Whitlock began walking around on the sidewalk towards Interstate-540.
When Raleigh police arrived, the caller said Whitlock began waving and walking toward the officers.
Whitlock was arrested without incident.
Records show Whitlock works at the Whitlock Development Group in Lillington. An online profile revealed Whitlock is a lawyer that got his degree from North Carolina Central University.
Court records also show Whitlock has been arrested 14 times in Mecklenburg County, but the records don't indicate what the charges were.
It is unclear why Whitlock brought a gun to the school. Officers are still investigating.
He is charged with bringing a gun on school property and terrorizing the public.
Whitlock's first court appearance will be Monday.
