WAKE FOREST, N.C. (WTVD) -- A local wounded warrior is a step closer to getting his new home.

A groundbreaking celebration happened Friday morning for one National Guardsman. Operation: Coming Home broke ground on a brand new house house for Sergeant Kyle Snyder in Wake Forest.

Snyder and his family were there for the big event. Snyder was seriously hurt in a suicide bombing in Afghanistan.

Three of his fellow soldiers were killed in the attack. Along with severe leg injuries, Snyder developed chronic regional pain syndrome, PTSD, and traumatic brain injuries.

The house will be built to accommodate his needs.

"When we got the phone call, one of the first things we though was, 'There's gotta be someone else out there that can use this house more than us,'" Sergeant Snyder shared. "But then they mentioned that that's the reason why we were selected, because we are always looking out for somebody else."

Snyder retired from the U.S. Army in October 2014. This is the 11th "Hero Home" built for our wounded warriors in the area.
