CHAPEL HILL N.C. (WTVD) -- According to a national survey released Monday by the Association of American Universities, 11.7 percent of undergraduate students on average experience unwanted sexual contact while enrolled at a university.
The number is higher for undergrad women at 23.1 percent.
The results came out just as students at NC State University received a Wolf Alert about a report of an alleged sexual assault on campus Sunday.
The national study surveyed over 150,000 students from 27 universities across the country, including UNC Chapel Hill, which exhibited higher averages with 12.9 percent of students surveyed saying they've experienced unwanted sexual contact, including 24.3 percent of undergraduate women.

UNC Chapel Hill's chancellor Carol Folt said in a letter to the university that the school will use the results to affect changes to the school's policy.
"We will use the information collected to help us identify prevention programs, highlight resource and communications needs and review University policies. The University's Prevention Task Force is creating a five-year strategic plan to reduce gender-based violence in the campus community and will use this information to guide that plan," Folt said.
