Bystander injured in Durham parking lot shooting
DURHAM (WTVD) -- UNC graduate Brayton Hall was sitting in his car eating when he says a black van rolled up and a few minutes later shooting began. A bullet hit him, and now he has fragments lodged in his arm.
"Out of nowhere, guns were out and firing. And for a moment you don't think it's real," said Hall.
Hall's red Jeep Grand Cherokee is riddled with bullets after being in the middle of the shootout. The windshield is shattered and his side windows are blown out.
It was around 3:30 a.m. Saturday when Hall was with his friends at the Cookout on Hillsborough Road in Durham.
"The first bullet was coming head on, which hit the windshield," said Hall.
Though he was shaken, Hall was able to drive to a nearby gas station and call police.
"It was pedal to the metal. I've never gone that fast through a parking lot. I luckily didn't hit or crash into anything," said Hall.
Hall said there were 20 or 25 people involved in the shooting. There have been no arrests and police say they don't have any suspects.
Hall feels lucky he only has minor injuries.
"Thank God, really. It could have been so much worse. My friend was in the passenger seat next to me and my other friend was behind him so, if their heads weren't ducked who knows. Ducking may have saved their lives because the windows were blown out," said Hall.
Another vehicle was also shot up. Police say the driver of that car was not injured.
Doctors told Hall the bullet fragments lodged in his arm will come out on their own in the next two or three weeks.
