DURHAM (WTVD) -- There was a massive cleanup effort on Saturday to remove trash from a historic cemetery in east Durham.
CrossFit Renowned athletes teamed up with "Keep Durham Beautiful" to remove litter and tree debris at Geer Cemetery.
Geer Cemetery is the resting place of many of the earliest generations of African Americans in the Bull City.
No one claims ownership of the cemetery, and it's been largely unmaintained.
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the end of slavery in the U.S. and an observance is planned for later this year.
