Cashier wants to thank man who paid it forward
Woman says the whole thing was so touching it brought her to tears.

DURHAM NC (WTVD) -- Carolyn Morales is a cashier at the Save-A-Lot on Liberty Street in Durham and she wants to thank a mystery shopper who came into the store to make a donation and then paid it forward for the person in front of him in line.

The store sells "Bags for a Brighter Holiday" full of holiday foods that shoppers can buy to be donated to the hungry and homeless at the Durham Rescue Mission.

Morales said it's pretty normal for someone to buy one or two while they're doing their grocery shopping but says she was touched when the man came in just to buy five bags and floored when he paid for all the groceries for the elderly woman in front of him in line too.

"When I got finished ringing her up, I told her the total and he stepped up closer, he said 'No just add it on to mine,'" Morales said. "And there was an older lady and she was like 'Oh thank you, I've been blessed.'"

Morales said the whole thing was so touching it brought her to tears.

She said she can really sympathize with those who struggle to put something on their table for the holidays.

"With me working and my husband working, we still struggle to make ends meet," She said. "And we have two small children at home, and it's difficult.

"And just to think someone, out of the kindness of their heart, would go that step further to buy a donation bag for five families, that's not going to have anything . . . well thanks to him they will have it this year."

Although she didn't get the good Samaritan's name, she wants him to know how much his random act of kindness is appreciated.

"He was kind of tall, chunky, African American guy and I just want to say thank you to him, Morales said. "I don't know who he was. I don't know where he lives or anything, but if he's watching, I just want to say thank you for what you did and you made my heart warm."
