Gigantic waterslide soaks downtown Raleigh
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A huge waterslide was the reason behind Saturday's major road block along Glenwood South.
Raleigh's 'Slide the City' transformed Glenwood Avenue, between Jones and Tucker Streets, into a giant waterslide with 1,000 ft. of padded vinyl, spanning the length of three football fields.
"I'm still a kid, but it's definitely fun to go back about seven or eight years ago, sliding down the slide," said Wake Tech student Ebony Christmas.
The event drew huge crowds, including Eddie McShea and his family.
"We're going again!" he said after taking a turn on the giant slide. "We're going again until (the kids) are ready to go!"
Raleigh's Mayor Pro Tem John Odum didn't just watch the fun, he participated.
"I grew up on the Lumber River and I love the water! It was fast in some spots, slow in others and I had to work sometimes," Odum said.
Raleigh's first 'Slide the City' experience won't be the last, judging by the crowds.
"I think it's great for Glenwood Avenue and Glenwood South, and Raleigh as a whole. So I look forward to it coming back again next year," Odum said.
