Operation Christmas Child spreads joy across the globe

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A local organization is working to help make the holidays a little brighter for less fortunate families around the world.

Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan's Purse. Since 1993, the organization has collected and delivered more than 135 million gift-filled shoe boxes to children in more than 150 countries.

All this week volunteers have been packing boxes for children. Monday is the final day of National Collection Week.

The Raleigh-area volunteer team is trying to reach this year's goal of more than 42,000 shoe boxes.
