Whiteville's Shaun Kirk submits letter of intent to NC State
WHITEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- There was relief Wednesday for Mark Gottfried and the NC State when recruit Shaun Kirk, who verbally committed on Monday, submitted his letter of intent to the school.
Things got hairy when Kirk received an offer from Kentucky shortly after committing to the Wolfpack. The offer made Kirk backpedal for a bit and weigh his options.
Prior to Monday's madness, Kirk's only solid offer was from UNC-W, although Wake Forest was also sniffing around.
His last high school game at Whiteville was actually a playoff loss in Durham to Voyager Academy. In the end, Kirk was true to his word with the Pack.
"It's a dream. That's every kid's dream to have Coach John Calipari call you," said Kirk. "And that's something that I was blessed to have and I had to hear what he had to say."
Kirk said he chose NC State because it's closer to home and in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
