Road reopens in downtown Raleigh after reported gas leak

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A gas leak discovered Thursday morning in downtown Raleigh forced drivers and workers in the area to find different ways to their destinations.

McDowell Street from Hargett Street to Hillsborough Street was closed. All roads reopened about 6 p.m.

Dominion Energy said the leak was found and shut off. The portion of the road that was excavated to get to the leak was repaired.

The investigation started after a gas odor was reported at Hargett Street and Salisbury Street. "Out of an abundance of caution," several surrounding buildings in the vicinity were evacuated, Dominion Energy said in a news release.
