RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Drivers along Interstate 540 and Creedmoor Road in Raleigh encountered major traffic delays Monday morning as authorities took a suspect into custody.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol told ABC11 that the suspect called 911 overnight and threatened to shoot any law enforcement officer he saw.

His vehicle was later spotted along Creedmoor Road near the I-540 ramp just after 9 a.m. Monday.

Several Highway Patrol troopers and Raleigh police officers responded to the scene, blocking the westbound ramp of I-540 at exit 9 and part of Creedmoor Road.

Witnesses said several officers had guns drawn and drivers were diverted from the area.

Raleigh police said the suspect, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody for "medical" reasons and authorities were reaching out to his family.

Traffic was blocked off in the area for over an hour as authorities cleared the scene.
