Train strikes car on tracks at Durham intersection

DURHAM (WTVD) -- A driver was able to escape Monday night after his car got stuck on the railroad tracks in Durham.

The motorist got out of his vehicle and called authorities after his car got trapped between railroad arms at Pettigrew Street and Grant Street.

Police were en route and the railroad company was notified, but the train was not able to stop in time before hitting the vehicle.

Amtrak confirmed the "Piedmont" train struck the unoccupied car and was subsequently delayed 45 minutes.

No one was injured in the incident.
