Piles of debris continue to line Fayetteville streets after Hurricane Matthew
FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Fayetteville residents have been reaching out, asking why it's taking so long to clean their streets after Hurricane Matthew. Piles of debris still line many streets although over 125 truck loads have already been collected.
City leaders say they're working hard but it isn't an easy process.
"What we're transitioning into is more like the Marathon," said Scott Bullard with the City of Fayetteville. "Save your strength and have a pace because it takes time to do some of the things we're trying to accomplish."
Officials have urged residents for weeks to follow the rules for curbside pick-up to try to make the contractors jobs a little easier and faster.
"We ask people that are doing removal to be good stewards to stack it appropriately and then the truck behind me and can pick it up," Bullard told ABC11.
Many residents on Bombay Drive are anxious to get the trash cleared.
"My kids haven't been able to come out and play because its been so nasty," Karen Erwin explained. "And then we have strangers constantly coming up and down the street and digging for the trash."
City leaders are asking for patience.
