SAN FRANCISCO -- Quite a few Americans retire overseas, where the cost of living can be much cheaper.

One publication says your best bet is to go south of the border.

International Living magazine's list the following nations as best for retirement.

Costa Rica comes in fifth because of friendly locals.

Malaysia, across the Pacific, has great public transportation.

Mexico has amenities similar to the U.S., but is much cheaper.

Panama actually pays seniors a $1,000 a month to live there indefinitely.

And in first place is Ecuador because of its low cost of living and great senior discounts.
