Fallen tree knocks out power, blocks traffic in Raleigh
A large tree fell on Van Dyke Avenue in Raleigh Friday afternoon.

RALEIGH -- A large tree fell in the 2600 block of Van Dyke Avenue in Raleigh Friday afternoon.



The tree knocked out power to many homes in the area, which is near N.C. State University and Cameron Village.



Residents reported hearing a loud boom when a transformer blew after the tree fell.



Duke Energy crews are on the scene trying to determine the extent of damage.



At one point, more than 1,300 customers were without power. Full power was restored Friday evening.
