Tropical system in Atlantic could become storm, depression
The tropics are heating up as we're approaching August. We've been watching two tropical waves in the Atlantic this week.
The first wave has really died off as it has approached the east coast of the US, and now is down to a zero chance of forming into a tropical disturbance over the next five days.
A cold front that stalled out, and turned into a stationary front, will keep this wave off the coast.
However, moisture from this system will keep the rain chances over North Carolina this weekend. Other than that, no major impacts are expected across the Carolinas at this time from this system.
The tropical system farther out in the Atlantic has weakened a bit overnight.
It now has a 50 percent chance of becoming a tropical depression or tropical storm as it gets close to the Caribbean sea. It will be moving into unfavorable conditions as it approaches the Leeward Islands.
The major models all keep this out to sea and kill it off as it moves west.
That being said, we are approaching the peak of hurricane season so don't let your guard down. Please make sure you have your hurricane kit in place.
