Bicyclist killed in Wake County

WILLOW SPRING (WTVD) -- A Willow Spring man was hit and killed Tuesday night while riding his bike home from church.

Lee William Morel's family told ABC11 he had just finished volunteering at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church around 7 p.m. when the 33-year-old was struck and killed by a truck on Dusty Winds Court.

The driver of the truck, 44-year-old William Denton of Apex, wasn't hurt.

Morel was just a few houses away from his home, where he lived with his parents - Cindy and Charles.

"Why? They always say it takes time. I'd rather he be here," Cindy Morel cried.

She said her son had been helping the church prepare for a BBQ on Friday.

"They were setting up tables and getting ready for their annual fundraiser this week," Cindy Morel said.

She said her son loved giving back, and making others laugh.

He will be buried at the church, near where the accident happened.

No charges in connection with his death have been filed at this time.
