WAKE FOREST, N.C. (WTVD) -- Police are investigating at least 17 cases where someone shot out a car window with a BB or pellet gun.

The vandalism started Friday. Nothing has been taken from the vehicles and no injuries have been reported.

Police say some homes may have been hit too.

"It's a very disturbing trend. It's a very disturbing rash of incidents. What we're doing, as we always do, is ask area residents to just be on the lookout, to report any suspicious persons or vehicles in their neighborhood," said Town of Wake Forest spokesperson Bill Crabtree.

With no known suspects, police say the only tips they can give to the public are to park your car in the garage, car port, or driveway, if possible. If you have to park on the street, they say try to find a well-lit area.

The number to call with tips is (919) 435-9610. All calls are confidential.
