Skies will turn out mostly cloudy today as a strong cold front advances toward the Triangle.

A few showers and thunderstorms will develop in the afternoon, and at night. They will send cooler temps our way. They will also bring the chance at some severe weather.

The SPC has put the entire area under a marginal risk.

Thunderstorms will be locally strong to severe late in the day and early evening, with flooding downpours and damaging wind gusts.

The front will move slowly to the south and east on Thursday and as a result, it will not be nearly as hot; however, there still could be a shower for a time in the morning. Dew points will start to drop in the afternoon and it should not feel quite as muggy in the afternoon.

Building high pressure from the northwest will bring in drier air, and cooler conditions with sunshine and some clouds.

This will remain in place through the start of the weekend on Saturday and Sunday stays dry.
