Last week to see the best fall colors in the mountains
It's your last chance to see the beautiful fall colors in the mountains this week

ASHEVILLE, NC (WTVD) -- If you love the fall colors in the mountains of N.C., this is it. This is the last week to see the show over there.

Here's the latest map:

The highest elevations have gone to brown, and it's working its way down the mountains. You will still see pockets of color from 3000' up, but most of the leaves have fallen above that altitude. You are still seeing lots of colors below 2000'. The Hickory Nut Gorge at Chimney Rock will be great. I've done that hike and it's spectacular.

Also, near Ashville, Lake Lure and Lake James State Park should be amazing. Grandfather Mountain still has colors too, though they are working their way down into the foothills.

The mountains losing their color does mean some good news for us in central NC. We will peak this week into next around the Triangle and next week in the Sandhills.
